This is a photo obtained from the Forest Service. It was taken circa 1930, to document the damage done during a major forest fire the year before. The fire destroyed most of the timber on the ridge in the upper one-third of the photograph. Notice Lily Lake on the right hand side. Notice also the lack of dunes and beach grass between the lake and the ocean. One can easily find highway 101 in its early stages of construction, and the draw up which Berry Creek Quarry is accessed. Notice too, just north (left side of the photo) of the draw up to Berry Creek, the initial cut where access to Southview was taken, as well as the near total lack of trees on our hill at the time!
