Road System and Fire Protection

Davidson Industries completed all the road construction.  Berry Creek Construction delivered all the roadbed materials, and early on a gravel road was laid in the location of our current Southview Lane.  Later on, after approval of the PUD by the County, the curbs, gutters and blacktop were all installed.

Davidson Industries installed all the water mains and fire hydrants.  It is unknown who approved the final location and numbers of fire hydrants, but by today’s standards there should be five additional hydrants here.  If required by the County to provide additional fire hydrants in the future, the Homeowner's Association will be responsible for installing those at that time.

The Siuslaw Rural Fire Protection District recently (+/- 1 July 1999) contracted with the City of Florence to provide their fire services, so the Florence Fire Department no longer exists.  Siuslaw Valley Fire & Rescue provides fire protection to us at this time.

Although there is a fire station at Highway #101 and Sutton Lake Road, all firefighters respond to the main station at Highway #101 and 30th Street in Florence, and respond to any fire from there.

But even given a timely alarm from Southview, the first fire engine should be on its way in 5-7 minutes.  It takes another 15-20 minutes to arrive here and, depending on where the fire is, another 5-8 minutes to set up and be ready to pump water.  This is clearly way too much time, and any fire over about 18 inches in height will most certainly grow to consume the entire structure.  All the more reason to be very careful with fire!
