Florence Area Weather and Web Cams

The weather here on the Oregon coast acts much like that in the rest of the country; if you don't like what's happening, just wait a minute!  We've witnessed spring days that reach into the high 80s, only to drop into the middle to low 50s within an hour as a fog bank rolls in off the mighty Pacific!  We've also enjoyed sitting in the sun on our back deck - on Christmas day - in short-sleeved shirts!

Historically, we receive most of our wet weather between late November and mid-March, and the amount of rain seems to run in cycles.  When we moved to Florence in 1995, the Chamber of Commerce touted the rainfall as averaging 60"- 65" a year.  Score one for advertising; the rainy season in 1995-96 brought us 90" of rain, the season of 96-97 delivered 110", and 97-98 brought 121" of the wet stuff!  Since we moved into our home at Southview though, we've enjoyed annual rainfalls in the 35"- 40" range.

The wind gauge at Sea Lion Caves (1+ miles north of us) sometimes shows speeds in excess of 110 miles per hour during the winter, yet Southview, on our wind gauge, hasn't received any gusts in excess of 70 miles per hour, and then only gusts, not sustained winds!

Harbor Vista Park is at the North Jetty on the Siuslaw River.

If history is any guide, we get a good watering from January through March, occasional spring rains during April and May, slight afternoon winds during June and July (with any occasional rain stopping after the 4th of July), and warm, wonderful weather from then until middle to late November, when fall sets in and mother nature begins to think about replenishing the parched landscaping.

So, with this explanation, feel free to visit the Florence area weather and web cam sites offered below!  Enjoy!
