Who are We?

Cliff and Mary moved to the stunning Oregon coast in 1995.  Cliff had retired from a successful career at the Boulder, CO Fire Department in April of that year, and they wanted a change of scenery from the Boulder area.  Boulder had changed dramatically since they moved there in 1966, and they felt it just wasn’t a ‘nice’ place to live anymore.  And besides, since Cliff grew up near Cape Cod and Mary wanted a less dry climate, so they both understood they wanted to live near the ocean.  Having visited Cliff’s sister in Lakeside, OR – having to pass through Florence each time they did – they soon discovered that Florence fit the bill!

Arriving in Florence on June 1, 1995, they settled into their home on Willow Street.  Mary found work in her chosen field of nursing, and they began to settle into the ‘wetter’ climate of the Pacific Northwest.  But all too soon it became apparent that Cliff needed more room to work on his fire protection consulting business and various other projects, so they sought a place to build their dream home.

They found such a place in Southview.

They purchased their little slice of heaven (lot #6, 90790 Southview Lane) in February of 1997, and began clearing the land in April of that year.  Moving into their dream home in March of 1998 along with their two dogs, they set out to be good neighbors and to enhance and increase the beauty and security of the neighborhood.  Cliff became involved in the governance of the Southview Homeowner’s Association even before their home was complete, ultimately serving five terms as the President of that organization.

Currently, Mary works part time at the local medical clinic when she’s not keeping the home fires burning, while Cliff continues to work on his projects and staying involved in the business of keeping Southview a pristine place to call home.  He currently serves on the Board of Directors.
